My dear little Fiat 500
Elsie, or, to give her her full title, ElsieLuluBabyCar IV, arrived here at PixiTowers on 24th March 2007. I'd wanted a little runaround to pop out for shopping, to nip into town, to bring the children home from school, for sometime now. I've never been a girl for a modern, tin box of a car, so I developed a yearning for a little cinquecento. After not very much time trawling the interweb-thingy, I saw this little gem for sale at the Proiettis in London. John went out to have a look at her and try her out. He reported back favourably and so the following weekend we brought her home.
She broke down three times on that first journey, but we just couldn't wipe the grins off our faces. Usually agressive London drivers seemed to soften and melt at the sight of Elsie and we were waved into gaps in traffic and offered help when we needed a push.
Here she is at her first stop, on the A10
She had overheated and got herself all flustered. We pushed her to a little cafe (the kerb is a long way away with these little beasts!)
It was touching that, all the way home, her cuteness caused total strangers to wave and offer help. One very nice couple, when we broke down near Duxford and were parked at a petrol station, turned round and came over to see us. They hadn't realised we were not simply parked and wanted to have a look at her.
Finally, we arrived home and introduced her to Mogget (the Morgan) no pics yet.. and Scoubidou the Subaru. Scorpeeen the Grinall Scorpion - John's little runaround came out to say hello.
Here she is in her smart pyjamas - who needs a garage?
(don't you think her ears are adorable??)
Here she is on her first Tesco trip.
She is such a show off! I keep finding her making friends with total strangers in the car parks of Tescos, school and this beautiful city.
